So Kris and I have split up. He showed up at my place on Saturday night/Sunday morning without so much as a "Happy Birthday" and he was drunk. VERY drunk. I only let him in because I thought he might have another seizure and if he did that without anyone around, he could die. Anyway, when he'd sobered up the next day we had a long talk and he couldn't explain why he'd done it (especially as the doctors had told him not to drink ever again. After some discussion, I told him that I can no longer trust him, and I can't forgive (especially as he had me worrying on my birthday), so if we stayed together I would feel that I was condoning his behaviour. So, for the time being at least, we're friends. This is because I think if we didn't speak at all, he'd end up getting worse. We may get back together IF: - He gets help for his drink problem
- He stays off alcohol for at least three months
- He doesn't disappear again
- If we get back together after the three months, and he drinks again, it's over for good.
So far, he's already got himself a counsellor and found out where his nearest AA meeting is, and he's going tonight. He's admitted to me, and to himself, that he's an alcoholic. I hope he does get through this, it breaks my heart to finish with him but I can't see any other way, and his drinking is the only thing keeping us apart.

I hope that Kris gets cured of his alcoholism completely and that everything works out ok in the end for you both *hugs*

Really sorry to hear this Huggy. I hope Kris can get through this - it must be a good sign that he's admitted that there's a problem and is trying to do something about it. I hope you and he can work things out *hugs*

Well, he went to the AA meeting last night, and he's at a day centre all week, so the temptation's removed when we're apart - he really wants to beat it this time. So we'll probably patch things up eventually.
