British TV comedy actor Ronnie Barker, who starred in Porridge and The Two Ronnies, has died aged 76. He died peacefully and his wife was with him. He had been nursed at home for a long time.
One of the most loved and respected comedy performers of his generation, he was best known as one half of a double act with Ronnie Corbett. But he also proved himself as an outstanding sitcom actor and script writer, winning four Bafta TV awards. BBC News.
I was genuinely saddened by this news. Ronnie Barker was such a gentle and modest man. Condolences to his wife, family and friends.
1929 - 2005 R.I.P Ronnie, God Bless

I was just dropping by to post this - you beat me to it Jas!
It is sad, he was very talented and funny and I grew up with his TV shows. He'll be much missed.

That's terrible news. He was really funny, especially in "Open All Hours".

This news affected me more than all the news about terrorism! I suppose it's because I watch most of the things Ronnie was in and over the years it's like he's become like a really dear friend. I'm upset about this

I'm so sad to have read about this. I've always been a huge fan of Ronnie Barker's, I thought he was amaizingly talented. My favourite was Porridge... Norman Stanley Fletcher... brilliant character acting, and his relationship with Godber (Richard Beckinsale) and Mr KcKay (Fulton McKay) was just pure magic, terrible shame that all 3 of them have gone now. There'll never be another like him and as each one of 'The Greats' goes you wonder who there is to take their place. We've lost Eric Morecambe, Ernie Wise, Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan, Peter Cooke, one of my all time favourites Tommy Cooper and now Ronnie Barker - maybe It's just me but I can't think of anyone who can fill their shoes... any of them.
