The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, made in 1974, has topped a poll of the greatest horror films of all time. The gory classic topped a poll by movie magazine Total Film. Made for just $140,000 US dollars, it is based on the exploits of real-life serial killer Ed Gein and stars Gunnar Hansen as the axe-wielding Leatherface. "The only thing more terrifying than the opening 50 minutes of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is the last 30," the magazine said. The movie was refused a certificate for many years for its depiction of violence and was one of the original crop of films termed a "video nasty". Source: news.bbc.co.ukVery gory film. All I remember is the girl in the film did nothing but scream for the last half hour or so of it! And the guy (leatherface) at the end swinging his chainsaw around. *shudder* We had this on one of the old Beta tapes. Then it got banned.

You can't beat the original. It still gives me the shudders!

I've only seen the original once, when it was on TV a couple of years ago (after it was un-banned). It was pretty gory!

I haven't seen it at all - don't know if I want to! I can watch horror films, I've seen The Excorcist, Nightmare On Elm Street, Event Horizon, Amityville Horror, Blair Witch Project...but Texas Chainsaw Massacre seems a little too much

No I've never seen it & I just can't watch horror films. I have very vivid dreams at the best of times & have had nightmares after watching horror films in the past . I'm not bothered in my waking consciousness but have no control over what my mind is going to throw at me when I'm asleep. Have to say just looking at that picture makes me shudder.
