No doubt about that. In many ways the mid-to-later seasons, 5 and 6, were probably the best. But the lack of character focus, especially on the Lister-Rimmer rivalry, took something very special away from the series.

Series 8: Better than Series 7 (and probably series 1) but still not great.

It helped season 8 that they brought back the Rimmer/Lister bunk scenes. It was just a bit too zany for its own good sometimes.

Something's just occurred to me. Do you reckon the Tenth Doctor is Rimmer in a shortened 'Ace' wig? They sound the same, especially when the Doctor says, “You’re Mr. Thick, thick… thickitty thick face from Thick Town, Thickania. And so’s your dad.”

Never thought of that possibility...although of course DT is much better looking... why yes! I am shallow!
